            WHAT A NIGHT!

Bearden's evening with Tim Steed was delightful! The sanctuary was filled with smiles and laughter. Tim shared humorous stories but he went beyond the humorous. He demonstrated that the Christian life is one of joy and yes, laughter. Thank you, Tim, for coming home to Bearden UMC and sharing life with us. Many thanks to several people who gave of their time and talent to make the evening happen. Nina & Jim McPherson, Steve Allman, Shea McClure, Charlene Gallaher, Nancy Cooper, Ken Pruitt, Chris Harper and the Youth Transitions Ministry, and to Dot & Hoyt Steed for sharing their family with us.

“God loves laughter; so laugh big, laugh hard, and laugh often. And God loves servants; so serve big, serve hard, and serve often” -Tim Steed

                          FAVORITE HYMN(S)

The General Board of Discipleship (GBOD) invites every United Methodist to participate in a survey of favorite and least favorite hymns. This survey allows you to click on up to ten of your favorites and ten of your least favorite hymns and songs from The United Methodist Hymnal and The Faith We Sing. There are also five demographic questions to help GBOD analyze the results. All responses are anonymous and confidential. This information will help GBOD in planning future resources in congregational singing. You may find it helpful to compose a list of your selections prior to completing the survey. To take the survey, go to www.gbod.org/favoritehymns.html

                              FROM THE PASTOR

If you were unable to attend our church picnic here are some of things you missed; Fried Chicken, ham, beans, mac & cheese, chicken & rice, desserts of all sorts, even award winning desserts.  Just ask Luke Bledsoe, Craig Wallace, Ken Bielak, and Tommy Edwards for their award winning recipes.  We also learned the name of the big fish that swallowed Jonah.  It was Earnest.  Our Balloonist/Entertainer reminded us that the scripture says that Jonah knelt in earnest to pray.  There were fish being pulled out of the water and kids running into the water.  Laughter was the rule of the evening especially if you were watching those of us trying to play football.  All in all we had a wonderful afternoon and evening of fun and fellowship.  The foundation for this kind of fellowship is built when we worship together.  Let’s gather this Sunday in the Sanctuary for a little foundational work as we worship the Risen Lord.  See you in church.

                                             Mike

                    UNITED METHODIST WOMEN NOTES

The UMW Fall Rummage Sale will be Saturday, September 29, 7:30 a.m.  Set up will begin after WNL! on the 26th and continue on Thursday, the 27th  and Friday, the 28th from 9 a.m. until approximately 4 p.m.  We need folks to help with the set up.  No experience is necessary as you will receive on-the-job training.

If you have any questions, please contact Judy McKenzie at

368-2062. Your participation in this mission project is greatly appreciated.

Each year each unit is asked to bring a commodity to the District Annual Meeting.  These are distributed to various UMW supported outreach programs (our own Wesley House being one).  Our commodity is 9" disposable plates.  Please begin bringing these in and placing them in the white plastic basket in the workroom next to Janice's office.  We hope to have an overflowing basket by Nov. 9.  Thank you for helping!
