OUTREACH AND MISSIONS
Over the next few weeks the Mission Team would like to inform you of some of the lesser-known Mission Ministries supported by Bearden UMC. Our goal in doing this is to increase your awareness of mission opportunities and needs.
Free Medical Clinic of America – A Christian Healing Mission that provides free healthcare services, including lab work, radiology and medications to the working poor and uninsured. Donations help fulfill the needs of funding and expansion, as additional physicians join to volunteer their time to help fulfill the mission of meeting the unmet medical needs of many individuals.
CAN YOU HELP?
How? Help with IHN TAKE DOWN at 7 a.m. this Sunday. Give an hour - Only takes an hour to transform bedrooms to Sunday School rooms. Thanks!

FROM THE PASTOR
The “Basic” of Scripture!
I was excited 2 weeks ago to see those family bibles and the bibles with special stories that went with them. Also, it was great to hear Donna and Matt stress to the kids the vital nature of the bible last Sunday during worship. The bible is exciting because it is the Word of God!
All this begs the question, how much are we into the Word? I remember as a youth being challenged to read 3 chapters a day until I read the whole bible. I did it (even the begats). I also know from all the study of seminary and 33 years of sermon preparation that the bible has endless depths. One more, about 4 months ago for the most recent experience, I realized that there were new words jumping off of the pages at my eyes to read. The Word of God is alive and engages us.
Headlines abound with a world that challenges our faith, our values, our family, and even our world. We need not just a word. We need “The Word of God!” To be a Christian today requires a growing relationship with God, wisdom of a great tradition, a saving experience with Christ, and foundations of faith upon which to build life! It requires our being as Wesley would say, “A People of One Book!”
I do not want to go back to the bible. I want us to be a people going forward to the bible, The Word of God! Blessings,
In Christ, TLS
NOTE FROM CHILDREN'S MINISTRY & POND GAP OUTREACH!
100 years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the type house in which I lived, or the kind of car I drove. but the world may be different because I shared Jesus with a child.
Once again this summer, God has blessed us with oppor-tunities to impact the lives of children in our community as we share Jesus through a community block party, Vacation Bible School, sports, arts and science camps. If you were involved in last summer's outreach ministry, take a moment and reflect. If you were not able to participate last year, prayerfully consider some level of participation this year. March 25 is designated as a special day of prayer for our summer outreach programs. Please mark this on your calendar and seek God's will for your individual participation, the children and families of our church that will be involved, leadership, and the children and families in the Pond Gap and Vestal communities with which God has entrusted us.
ACOLYTE TRAINING
Children, 4th grade and above, are invited to attend acolyte training on Sunday, April 15th at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary during the Sunday School hour.
SPRING FORWARD. DON’T FORGET TO SET YOUR CLOCKS AHEAD ONE HOUR ON SATURDAY NIGHT!!! |

IT’S TIME TO RAISE BIG DOUGH!
The School Age and Early Enrichment Programs are holding a joint fundraiser in order to raise money for the playgrounds. Their goal is to put permanent surfacing on all three areas as well as add some new equipment to the School Age area. They are selling Little Caesars pizza kits, pie kits and cookie kits. See a representative at Wednesday Night Live!, on Sundays in the atrium or contact Lisa Counts, 588-6717.
CANDY, CANDY, CANDY AND ALSO SOME EGGS!!
Saturday, April 7 will be the Bearden UMC Easter Egg Hunt. Please mark your calendar. Invite family and friends with children newborn through 5th grade. We will look for eggs from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Last year we distributed 3,000 eggs with candy. You may begin to bring candy and eggs by the church for this special event. Candy and eggs may be left in Donna’s office. Thanks!
