FISHfact:  This month we’re recognizing Barbara Wayland as First Responder.  No, not the kind that come on fire engines and attends to emergency medical conditions.  The almost-emergency where Barbara was the first responder was our December FISHfact plea for more people to help deliver groceries.  She’s only been a member since August 2005, but she performed well, and reported that the deliveries were rewarding, even enjoyable (we paired her with an experienced deliverer, as we will when you come help us increase the number of families that call for a three-day supply of food). Every first Wednesday, come between 12:30 and 1:30.  You don’t need a reservation, but tell Susan Yanno, so we can plan for your help.  And thank Barbara when  you see her.

            CHILDREN’S DEPARTMENT NEEDS

Faithquest Rotation needs 50 empty egg cartons for

their February rotation.  Anyone having cartons can

drop those by Miss Donna’s office.

Anyone wishing to volunteer for Sunday morning

pre-school and nursery can sign up in the designated

notebook in the pre-school department each Sunday.

                                   FROM THE PASTOR

2 BIG WOWS!  We have two big events coming to Bearden in the next few days.  They are:

1.  This Sunday is the advent of our “Jubilee” worship service.  Jubilee is our entry into the contemporary style of worship.  Jubilee will have a distinct style of music, video support, up-tempo in style, but we will make an effort not to overwhelm you with volume except for my sermon (very loud).  We will be experimenting with Jubilee one Sunday night a month during the spring with an evaluation in May.

2.  In February Bill Lee and the Evangelism Team (E-Team) are asking us to “Go Crazy Over Sunday School.”  We average nearly 200 in Sunday School.  It would be great to see the adult side of Sunday School grow until we averaged around 220+ this spring.  The focus for the invitation is fun, celebration, and The Word!  The first Sunday classes are asked to worship together.  The second Sunday we are encouraged to have a valentine exchange and celebration.  The third Sunday the classes are invited to have a continental breakfast in class.  The fourth Sunday is what the rest of the emphasis is about.  We ask everyone to bring their study bibles and/or a family bible that has passed down from several generations.  We want individuals and families to be “In The Word!”

God is always pouring out His blessings upon us.  May we celebrate His presence, love and callings.

                                             In Christ,

                                             TLS

                            MISSION OPPORTUNITIES

Our Mission Statement:  To show Christ’s love to people locally and globally by reaching out to the hungry, sick, poor, homeless and those with spiritual, physical, and emotional needs through prayer, concern, educational awareness and the stewardship of the congregation’s time, talents, and financial gifts.  If you want a real blessing while helping others, please help support our upcoming and ongoing mission projects!  Mark your calendars!

Interfaith Hospitality Network – Our next host week starts Sunday, March 4.  Electronic games and video equipment are needed.  If you have updated your electronics this Christmas, please consider donating your older models to IHN for our visiting children and families to play with.  Contact Natalie Broyles for donations.

FISH – Look for upcoming information in the atrium and a chance to sign–up to assist the first Wednesday of each month.  Our next day to deliver groceries is February 7.

Costa Rica Mission Team – Support our upcoming fundraising efforts:  Sunday, February 11 is a Special Valentine Lunch and the Golf Tournament scheduled for Friday, April 13.

Habitat for Humanity – Look for more information about our work day on Saturday, February 24.  We will be helping complete a floor system (setting floor trusses and layering plywood sheets on top).

Katrina Relief Team:  March 18-24, 2007.  Dry Wall, Painting, Electrical.  Contact Pastor Tom ASAP if you are interested.
