CELEBRATION!
In honor of the 300th anniversary of Charles Wesley’s birth, Bearden, along with First UMC and St. Mark UMC combined handbell and vocal choirs, will come together to sing some of his great hymns. Please join us Sunday, October 7, at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Center for an evening of song and fellowship.
UNITED METHODIST WOMEN NOTES
Rummage Rumors. WOW! What a sale! We made a little over $3400 to send to various mission projects around the world. And that would not have been accomplished without a Bearden United Methodist Church team effort. Thank you’s go to all who donated items for the sale, to those who helped unload the rummage building on Wednesday evening, to those who worked on Thursday and Friday organizing and pricing, to those who purchased treasures, and to those who have up a part of the Saturday to work at the sale and to help with clean-up. Thank you’s also go to those wonderful cooks who made treats for the workers and to the “pizza angel” who provided pizza on Saturday.
Circle leaders are reminded to collect World Thank Offering donations at this month’s meetings. More on World Thank Offering next week!
Susanna Wesley Circle will meet Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. in the Ginny Pletz Class room.
Peggy Wylie will host Esther Circle at her home, 936 Carrington Road, on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
CHILDCARE NEEDED. Childcare is needed for three children during handbell practice as there are times that the paid workers are unavailable. Handbell practice is from 5 to 6 p.m. on Sunday afternoons. Childcare opportunities also arise when there are extended or extra rehearsals. In addition, childcare is needed for one child during Wednesday evening choir practice when paid workers are unavailable. We are currently advertising for additional paid workers over the age of 18, and have had no response. Our Safe Sanctuaries childcare guidelines apply to volunteer and paid workers. If you are interested in serving in this capacity, please notify Donna Lewis of your availability.
To Bearden UMC,
For your support, prayers, calls, visits, food and so many ways you have helped me and my family in this month, I give thanks. God certainly has many doing His healing care in this church family. Peace, Bill Balch

This Sunday is World Communion Sunday. The first Sunday in October has been set aside for a day on which all Christian congregations are encouraged to celebrate communion together. In this way we can remind one another of what Paul said in Ephesians 4:4-6, “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all.” As you take communion this Sunday be mindful of all your brothers and sisters in Christ around the world who are receiving the sacrament as well.

FAMILY PROMISE (IHN) TRAINING
There will be training for anyone interested in learning more about helping with the Family Promise (IHN) ministry. The training will be in the Pathfinders Classroom (Room #215) at 6PM on October 18th. Family Promise is a not for profit organization that exists to sustain a community-wide effort through the religions community to provide shelter, meals, and comprehensive services to families who are homeless, while enabling them to achieve sustainable independence. Our church is a host church and Sacred Heart Cathedral is our support congregation. Families stay at one of 12 host churches in the evenings and overnight. Volunteers are the heart of the network. In other words, without you, the ministry cannot exist. You prepare meals, play with children, help with homework, help set up and tear down guest accommodations, organize activities, such as family game night, tutoring, arts and crafts, or outings, stay overnight, provide needed supplies during host week, provide a listening ear to the families, and share the love of Christ. Training is important for every volunteer. I strongly encourage you to attend training to learn more about this ministry and check out the opportunities to serve. You may have already served in this ministry, join us anyway for a "refresher" on this ministry. We will have a good time learning and re-learning together. Oh, did I mention I am bringing sandwiches and fruit for supper that evening? Now, you just have to come! Call the church office, 588-6562, email Charla Sherbakoff , charla@sherbhomes.com or just come. There’s always enough! The 2007 & 2008 family Promise host weeks are:11/4-11/11/2007; 1/27/08-2/3/08; 4/20/08-4/27/08; 7/13/08-7/20/08; 10/5/08-10/12/08; 12/21/08-12/28/08
P.S. The Opportunity Board for the Nov. 4-11 host week is posted in the Atrium.

COSTA RICA MISSION TRIP 2008
God has blessed our church with a mission opportunity. The Mission Team is pleased to announce that we will be taking a team to Costa Rica in June, 2008 for a Medical/Veterinarian mission trip. ALL HANDS ARE NEEDED! Please be in prayer and listen for God calling you. We will need doctors, veterinarians, nurses, dentists, optometrists and most of all, members willing to work and share the love that Christ has given you with the people of Costa Rica. Please call Natalie Broyles, 388-5900, with any questions you may have.
If you are going to ride the bus to the Corn Maze on Sat., Oct. 13, we will leave the church promptly at 10:30 and return at 2:30 p.m. However, that Saturday is also Love 89 Family Day and there will be extra activities for children and families. If you choose to drive, we’ll see you at the Maze at 11! |
