MISSION AND OUTREACH. The Mission of Hope is another ministry supported by the Mission Team and BUMC. This volunteer organization concentrates on serving people throughout poverty stricken rural areas of Appalachia in Southeast Kentucky and Northeast Tennessee. The Mission of Hope distributes donated items and purchased materials to needy individuals and families through the support of school resource centers and local ministries. The Mission of Hope was created out of a truly passionate concern for others and a desire to share God’s love for people in a tangible way.
Saturday, April 7, 10-11:30 a.m. will be the children’s Egg Hunt. Please use this as an outreach opportunity for our church. Invite, invite, invite!! We need plastic eggs and candy to fill those eggs. Candy and eggs may be left in Donna’s office.

FROM THE PASTOR
Dear Members and Friends,
The United Methodist Church has a unique form of church government or polity among all the denominations. Every pastor is appointed one year at a time. This year the Staff-Parish Committee and I have agreed that a change in pastoral leadership is best for the ministry at Bearden.
This change will become effective June 20. Because I believe there should be an appropriate transition time, my last Sunday in the pulpit will be June 2nd. Communion is also scheduled that day.
Please know my thanks for being a part of the ministry at Bearden these last four years. Grace and Peace in the name of Christ our Lord.
In Christ, TLS

FISH REPORT FOR MARCH
Total Calls Received 30 Number of Food Deliveries Made (1 not at home) 29 Number of People Helped (57 adults, 59 children) 116 Number of Bearden Volunteers (17 adults, 14 youth) 31
FISHfact: Remember February 4th, Super Bowl Sunday? A Florida newspaper reported, “(it) has become the quintessential U.S. holiday.” A sport historian at Penn State said, “There’s a sense that if you’re an American and you don’t participate in Super Bowl Sunday, there is something wrong with you.” Well, folks, our Bearden Youth may be suspect – that was the normal day move 64 large sacks of groceries from the FISH Pantry to the church for delivery on Wednesday. And service to FISH/church/community is that the six of them (including one with a broken foot) chose to do during all of half-time and part of the third quarter. Just think of those million-dollar commer-cials they missed, and Prince performing, and being consumed by the pageantry of the event from start to finish. Yes sir, we need to keep an eye on Bearden Youth; their priorities may set a standard we adults can’t live up to.

Our Preschool parents have taken the challenge, stepped up to the plate and knocked the ball right out of the park! Yes, these young parents are doing an outstanding job in our Sunday morning preschool department. Special thanks to Beth Lawson and the Education Team for coordinating this effort and to the parents for their Christian cooperation. –Miss Donna

VICTORY CAMPAIGN. As of March 19 we have received $6420 in additional pledges toward our goal of $50,000 by Easter. Please do let us know of your additional pledges by returning the bottom portion of Ken Pruitt’s letter, or otherwise in writing. Then, you may include the gifts with your regular offerings on the “Operating Budget” line of the envelope. If you do not wish to make a pledge but want to contribute, please write “Victory Campaign” on the “Special Fund” line of the offering envelope and/or your check’s memo line. This will help the church staff to track the additional funds that will be available.
SERVING CHRIST AT THE VOLUNTEER MINISTRY CENTER . Bearden's Volunteer Ministry Center (VMC) Lunch Team for February served approximately 135 of our homeless neighbors at the VMC center. Bob and Linda Smith, Brad Houser, Joanne Hill, and Corky Brooks prepared and served spaghetti & meatballs, green beans, fruit cocktail, hot buttered bread, and chocolate cake. Want to know more about serving Christ in this mission? Ask anyone on the team or call Natalie Broyles at 450-2953. Jim and Cindy Black, Jim and Nina McPherson, and Nancy and Kim Counts will serve March 24.
FLOWER CROSS. Worshippers at the Easter morning services are invited and encouraged to bring flowers from their own garden or from their favorite florist or grocery store. The Worship Team is providing a large six-foot cross in the sanctuary for you to place your flowers.
