Please join your church family for lunch following the 11 o’clock worship service this Sunday, February 11th.  We will have door

prizes, pictures with your sweetheart(s), special music and even a few jokes all centered around a “Valentine” theme.  The menu will be homemade spaghetti, garlic bread, salad and a special dessert.  All proceeds will go to the Costa Rica Mission Trip scheduled this summer.  Price for lunch will be donations.

                    GO CRAZY OVER SUNDAY SCHOOL

The Evangelism Team (The E-Team) has designated February as “Go Crazy Over Sunday School” month.  Here are some suggestions for the remaining Sundays in February:

  • Feb. 11 – Valentine Sunday.  Everyone bring a valentine and a group exchange is done.  Bring enough for guests and those who forget to bring theirs.  Each valentine should have a scripture reference in it.  INVITE!

  • Feb. 18 – Go Crazy Breakfast Party.  Only coffee and hot chocolate will be served in the Atrium.  Bring a covered dish of breakfast goodies.  Bring a table up from the gym for the munchies.  If a covered dish is too extensive for your class, you could develop a team to see that food is brought to class that day.  Place scriptures around the table and have different members read aloud the verses.  INVITE!

  • Feb. 25 – “The Word” Sunday.  The purpose of “Go Crazy” is to get people into a Sunday School Class for study and fellowship.  Since we’ve had lots of fellowship in the previous weeks, this week is to focus on the study side by inviting folks into the bible for study, hence, “The Word” Sunday.  Bring your study bible or a bible from your family history to class and worship.  INVITE!

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Flooring system on Saturday, February 24

Bearden UMC has the opportunity to help Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, February 24 to build a floor system, i.e. setting floor trusses and laying the plywood sheets on top. This house will be part of a 7-house blitz in April and is part of Habitat’s new subdivision, October Woods, off of Rutledge Pike. We will work from 8 a.m. until afternoon (depending on how quickly the work goes). We need a group of about 15 workers as well as a committee of about 5 to prepare lunch. Please sign up on the sheet in the sanctuary on Sunday, January 28th. Materials for a flooring system cost between $2,000 and 2,500. Any donation to offset this cost would be a blessing.

Volunteers will be contacted later with directions to the site and suggested clothing and tools list. For more information, contact Leigh Cheek at 584-6018 or Cheeklc_2000@yahoo.com.

The IHN Opportunity Board is posted in the far left corner of the Atrium. Look for it against the wall. Notice that the board has a new name! It used to be called the Work Board. I think Opportunity Board is a better description.  Working during BUMC's IHN host week  is an opportunity to "hands on" show God's love to families without homes. There are opportunities to prepare a meal or apart of a meal; serve as Evening Host Serve as a family or individually; serve as on overnight host (comfortable cots! - ask Katy Jeffers, Dick Kelso, Stan Love, Elizabeth Peters, Terri McCracken, Nancy Mitchell, Brenda Tackett, Joe Thomas, Jim McPherson, Ken Pruitt, Dot & Hoyt Steed, Ken Bielak, Christy Hanna, David Broyles); Help children with their homework or play with the babies and toddlers; serve on the Set Up or Take Down team.  We will be hosting the families on Saturday and need Saturday day hosts and a Breakfast Team. To serve, sign up on the IHN Opportunity Board or call/e-mail Charla Sherbakoff (450-5078 or charla@sherbhomes.com). To serve on a Food Team, call Nina McPherson at 691-0148.  Sunday school classes, small groups, families, and individuals are encouraged to help with meals. Remember, don't let a good opportunity pass you by!

Need to get rid of the winter blues?  Come join us in pick up basketball on Sunday Nights from 3:30 p.m. – 5 p.m. or for pick up volleyball on Monday Nights, 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
