                                   FROM THE PASTOR

The Spiritual, The Financial, and The Church Mission!

Sunday evening the Church Council voted to enter a campaign to finish on Easter Sunday to raise $50,000 “beyond” the regular offerings and tithes.  Reasons!  We adopted a budget that is about $100,000 beyond our projected income.  We have a small reserve that can cover a part of this shortfall.  The Council voted to step out in faith and try to raise the rest.  That is the “Financial.”

The “Spiritual” is the belief that in the church we do not ever have “just the financial” questions or “just financial campaign” solutions.  The Council, the church staff, and I, all believe that the raising of $50,000 or $5 or $500,000 is a spiritual issue first!  If we deal with our church programs, finances, facilities, etc. as if they are dollars, brick, and literature issues, we miss the reality indeed.  This campaign is first and foremost a prayer, bible, and worship campaign!  The “Spiritual” is our being led by our Lord, Jesus Christ.

The “Mission” of our church is going to be affected dramatically by this campaign.  I believe that this will be one of the very tangible blessings that God is showing us as He pours out the Holy Spirit upon Bearden and us individually as disciples.  Words like revival and renewal are to distant to distant.  I believe God is going to use this time to refocus our vision towards Him, and restore our souls for a dynamic relationship with Him.

You will be hearing from the church lay leadership often in the weeks leading up to Easter.  At this time I want to make four requests of you.

  1. Let us pray for God to use you and me at Bearden.
  2. Let us pour over the scriptures in order to be saturated by God’s Word.
  3. Let us make church attendance and Sunday School study family priorities.
  4. Let us dedicate this great effort as a “Celebration” of the “Greatest Event” in history,

EASTER!

                                             In Christ,

                                             TLS

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Flooring system on Saturday, February 24

Bearden UMC has the opportunity to help Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, February 24 to build a floor system, i.e. setting floor trusses and laying the plywood sheets on top. This house will be part of a 7-house blitz in April and is part of Habitat’s new subdivision, October Woods, off of Rutledge Pike. We will work from 8:00 a.m. until afternoon (depending on how quickly the work goes). We need a group of about 15 workers as well as a committee of about 5 to prepare lunch. Please signup on the sheet in the sanctuary on Sunday, January 28th. Materials for a flooring system cost between $2,000 and 2,500. Any donation to offset this cost would be a blessing.

Volunteers will be contacted later with directions to the site and suggested clothing and tools list. For more information, contact Leigh Cheek at 584-6018 or Cheeklc_2000@yahoo.com.
