              THE LOVE LANGUAGES OF GOD

Beginning February 15; Facilitator:  Laughlin Smith

We feel most loved when others speak our primary love language.  We are drawn to those people because they are meeting our basic need to feel loved.  Dr. Gary Chapman examines how this concept relates to God’s agape love.  The goal of this study is to expand your understanding of love for God and others.  Robbie Howard will be the guest speaker in this class on Feb. 22nd.  Everyone is invited to attend this session.

      Coming in March!

Sunday School Special Emphasis and Outreach!  We will kick off our Sunday School special emphasis program with a church-wide covered dish on Sunday, March 5.   This will be a great day at Bearden and we may have a special surprise guest or two.  Sunday School is for Living!!!

The UMW spring rummage sale will be held on Sat.,April 1 at 7:30 a.m.  Set up days are scheduled for Wed., March 29th at 7:30 p.m. and Thurs. and Fri., March 30th and 31st at 9 a.m.  We learned from the last sale that Knox Area Rescue Ministries are now limited to what donations that can take.  Please do not bring any old, broken or heavily worn furniture, broken toys, old computers or appliances that no longer work.  We don’t want to seem ungrateful but these items do not sell and we have to pay someone to haul them off.

                  FROM THE PASTOR

Last Sunday I tried to share about the side of the Gospel that calls for a Cross.  Sometimes the God that is our healer leads us to go into tough situations or to take stands that might be misunderstood or disliked.  I want to restate one thing and add one more thought.

God may well ask us to come to grips with a tough situation or two.  Some of those situations may not be areas we want to go or be with people we want to be with.  Those times always need to be showered with the love of Christ.  Even when we feel that we are called to say a prophetic word:  that word comes with real love not a spirit enmity.  Today we have entirely too many people who have answers, action, and judgments without love!

The sermon addition goes like this.  Everyone is on a somewhat different scale or service location.  It would be foolish to send someone who is bleeding to death to bind the wounds of others without first tending their own wound.  However!  I believe God prepares, grows, and enables disciples to carry out their service.  I also believe that He never intends for a disciple to “soak in” healing love without any intent on becoming one in ministry.  That serving relates to our vocation in Christ and sometimes that means getting in touch with the word “selfless!”

                                           In Christ,

                                           Tom

                                 IHN 2006 DATES

NEW SUPPORT CONGREGATION & TRAINING TIME

I have exciting news to report for the Interfaith Hospitality Network!  Sacred Heart Cathedral will be a support congregation for us beginning March 26, our next host week. Support congregations provide volunteers to the host congregation.  Besides the support of providing volunteers, a new opportunity is provided for us to minister together with a neighboring congregation.  On March 12 at 5p.m., there will be a chili supper with the Sacred Heart parish in our Fellowship Center. The supper is a way for us to meet our new Sacred Heart workers and introduce them to our church.  If you have worked with IHN in the past or are interested in being apart of this ministry in the future, please attend. At 4 p.m. prior to the supper, there will be an IHN training meeting in the Pathfinders Sunday School class. This training is for anyone who wants to be an IHN worker and has not attended training before. All IHN workers need to be trained to be comfortable and successful in their IHN roles. Training ensures the smooth functioning for the entire Network and helps to develop as much continuity as possible for guests. There is also a training meeting scheduled at Trinity UMC on March 7 from 7-9 if you are unable to attend on March 12.
