FROM THE PASTOR
Labor Day! Labor Day is a holiday designed to celebrate the hard work people do to earn a living. Last Sunday I tried to share thoughts about “God and working our 40.” Brilliant I thought. (OK, almost brilliant. OK, had possibilities.)
Nevertheless! I started thinking about what it takes in volunteer hours to carry out the ministries in which God has called us to be involved. Some are: FISH – 35 volunteers x 12 months = nearly 1500 hours Costa Rica Mission – 18 people = 4000 hours Adult Sunday School – 9 classes x lesson prep. & class leadership service = 2400 hours Choirs – Chancel/Tabernacle/Bells = over 4000 hours Keep adding Children’s Ministries, UMW, and . . . . !
And then! A bunch of you are giving hours and hours beyond the local church to community associations, Boys/Girls Clubs, hospital volunteers, coaching kids, civic and professional organizations, helping your neighbor, and …!
Wouldn’t it be interesting to see just how many hours are given beyond “The 40” by this congregation! WOW! Please know that you bring a smile to the face of God every time you take that ministry/service step!
In Christ, TLS

INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (IHN). On Sunday, September 10 several families without homes will be arriving at our church for a week's stay. The Sunday School classes are transformed into bedrooms on Sunday morning by the SET UP TEAM. At 6:30 p.m. every evening, families eat supper in the "dining room" (2nd floor youth room). The supper is prepared by the FOOD TEAM. Joining the families for supper and for the evening from 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. are EVENING HOSTS. The hosts serve as needed for the evening. The children enjoy playing in the gym, outside, in the "den" (2nd floor youth room) with the CHILDREN ACTIVITY TEAM. Activities wind down around 8:30 when the families are joined by the OVERNIGHT HOSTS. The over night hosts sleep in a private Sunday School "bedroom". In the mornings, the evening hosts and families depart for work school, or the IHN Day Center. Families will return to the church at 5 p.m. On Sunday, September 17th, the families will leave and begin a new week at another host church. The Sunday School rooms and the youth rooms are transformed into Sunday School rooms by the TAKE DOWN TEAM at 7 a.m. The bedding and towels are picked up by the LAUNDRY TEAM and are washed and returned by our next host week in December. Needed supplies are posted on the SUPPLY LIST in the Atrium. Where can you be the hands and feet of Christ during IHN Host week?
We still need the following workers so that we can host the families: Tues., Wed. & Thurs. – male & female overnight hosts; Friday & Sat. – male overnight host; Sat. – evening food team. If you can serve, please call Charla Sherbakoff at 450-5078 or 806-3337.
