                WELCOME NEW MEMBERS!

We had two folks join our fellowship this Sunday,

August 6th

Eloise Rogers joined at the 9 a.m. service.  She

comes to us from First Baptist Church, Knoxville.

Eloise resides at 5501 Sunrise Drive; 37919 and her telephone number is 909-9139.

Barbara Wayland joined during the 11 a.m. service.

She transfers from First United Methodist, Dandridge.

Barbara resides at 7914 Gleason Dr., #1128; 37919

and her telephone number is 670-1493.

HANDBELLS.  We are still looking for people to sign

up for the Beginning Handbell choir.  If you have an interest in learning to play handbells, we are starting a beginning group that will meet each Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock starting August 13.  We will show you how to ring handbells, while teaching you how to read music and showing you a new way to praise God.  Throw your inhibitions away and comehave fun while making a joyful noise!

The Bearden Bells (existing choir) will meet at 5 p.m. starting Sunday, August 13.  If you have experience playing handbells and are interested in joining this group or the beginning choir, contact Les Beaver (558-8972) or Ellen Raines at the church, 588-6562.

IN APPRECIATION.  Flowers, cards, visits, food, phone calls, prayers....all these expressions of love brighten dreary days and speed healing.  A kind and caring church family is one of God's great blessings. I am truly grateful to be so wonderfully blessed!

                          --Barbara Allman

WORSHIP AT BEARDEN.  The “worship experience”

is vital to the spiritual growth and well-being of every church and every individual. To this end, Bearden UMC needs your help in expanding the Early Riser Choir and the Chancel Choir to raise the roof in praise in our worship services.  Please join us on Sunday mornings at 8:20 for the ERC (fondly know as “The Mighty Bearden Tabernacle Choir) or Wednesday nights at 7 o’clock for the Chancel Choir.   God will bless you and the congregation mightily as we “make

a joyful noise unto Him!”

                               FROM THE PASTOR

How shall we grow as a church?

The answer to that question is that there is not any one single method or action or strategy.

The only one single truth about this area is that God wants His church to grow and is cycling people to be receptive to invitation/sharing.  There are several things that we know help create a culture of growth also help folk become a part of the fellowship.

  1. People want the “regular” folk to want them!  That is, people want to be spoken to, invited into circles, and be very much befriended by the laity.

  1. Growth takes place when the congregation joins together in prayer for that growth.  Solid growth must be founded upon a spiritual base.

  1. I believe that God will send any number of people to our doors just because we are a church.  But, for a local church to capitalize on the potential God has given to it there must be a deliberate loving effort for it to go beyond the walls into the community.  If you ask any pastor of a growing church about why they are growing, sooner or later you will hear, “Our people invite.”

There are many other contributing parts but these three give us a starting point for discussion, prayer, and involvement.  Blessings,

                                          In Christ,

                                          TLS

                     FISH REPORT FOR AUGUST

Total Calls Received                                                          38

Number of Food Deliveries Made                                         36

Number of Food Requests Picked Up at the Church               2

Number of People Helped (75 adults, 71 children)               146

Number of Bearden UMC Volunteers                                   24

FISHfact:  Sunday, September 10th, 1:00-3:00 p.m. – mark your calendar.  Fran and Stan Love are looking for Bearden Youth to again provide the help they’ve given in past Septembers as we fill 400 (yes, 400) bags to restock the West Knox FISH Pantry.  Some adults can also be useful in keeping the assembly roller-conveyor running, so long as they don’t slow down the kids.

Our Youth may not get the recognition they deserve for their effort here (nor for their work in transporting bags to the church once a month), but their help is essential to our FISH mission.

Another, adult, volunteer is needed, to make a “run” each week during September to the Flowers Bakery Outlet in Seymour (10 miles from downtown) for the many loaves of bread needed to keep the Pantry stocked all month.  There are three upright freezers, and we’ll provide a Pantry key.  See Fran Love for other details.
