PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE. The pastor’s class for Wednesday Night Live! will be the book by Rick Warren, The Purpose Driven Life. We want this to be an inter-active study. For this study we need about five group facilitators to help with discussions based on the book and the pastor’s 15 minute presentation. We have on hand about 20 used copies of the text. The first session will be September 6th. Even if you have gone through the book before, it will be worth another experience.
WELCOME NEW MEMBERS! Bob and Heather Fuller joined our fellowship on Sunday, August 13th. They come to us by transfer from First UMC in Lafayette, Louisiana. The family includes their sons, Anderson and Jacob, and they reside at 9800 Lakeland View Way, Unit 307, 37922. Their telephone number is 546-7363.
TO THE BEARDEN UMC FAMILY: Thank you so much for the thoughtful reception and gifts to send me off to Duke Divinity School. I will always treasure the memories I have of this church family and the ways all of you supported, encouraged, and challenged me in my two years as a member at Bearden. My new address is: 3534 Rawdon Dr., Durham, NC 27713 and/or betzy_elifrits@excite.com
In Christ’s Love, Betzy Elifrits
COMBINED SERVICE. We will be joining our friends at First United Methodist Church , 3316 Kingston Pike for a combined worship service this Sunday, Aug. 27th at 7 p.m. (The Chancel Choir will meet at 6 p.m. for rehearsal.) Please join us!
DEAR BEARDEN UMC VOLUNTEERS: We, the staff and children of Kid’s Place want to express how much it meant to us to have you work with us this summer. As you know the children of Pond Gap come from a diverse background. Many have never been exposed to love and acceptance outside their own families. Many didn’t understand why you were there, they were just glad you were. Many even asked well into July when you were coming back. You may not have told them about God’s love with your voices but your hearts spoke loudly and you were heard. Thank you again for all you have done for “my kids.” Ron Moser, Site Director Kid’s Place at Pond Gap

FROM THE PASTOR
Visitors! Last Sunday we had a bunch of visitors including at least 8 first timers. God is blessing us with new faces at both services every week. These new faces have the potential to become friends, church family, new members, and fellow servants of Christ. I believe that God wants our church to grow spiritually, in ministry, and in membership (via transfer, reactiva-tion, and profession of faith).
For this to occur many things need to happen. One of the main things is for those who are within the congregation to give the good welcome. That means to never leave worship not having spoken to those on your row, and to speak to those around that you do not recognize. A big help for the church would be to contact me or the office by phone or by note later and make sure we have new names and information.
We have been and will be taking pies, making phone calls, and visiting. But, one of the best things is to introduce these new friends to other church members that are nearby.
Sure, some folks want to be left alone. They will let you know this. But! Overwhelmingly, people want a genuine smile, a greeting, a welcome, and a touch! No one has to feel like they are Mr. or Mrs. Congeniality just a real person that loves Jesus! Blessings, In Christ, TLS
