                          RECEPTION

Farewell Reception.  Our dear friend and Christian colleague, Betzy Elifrits, will be leaving Bearden UMC after August 6th to attend seminary at Duke University.  Their gain is our loss as she has been involved in all areas of our church’s programs.  We will host a reception in the Fellowship Center on August 6th immediately following the 11 a.m. worship service to show our appreciation to her for her selfless service to the Youth and the entire music program.  Please join us as we wish Betzy “Godspeed!”

                     MISSION HAPPENINGS

On Saturday evening, August 26th the first annual IHN Spaghetti Cook-off will be held at First Farragut UMC.

There will be celebrity judges as well as let the public vote and there will be two prizes given - The Best Spaghetti and The People's Choice. There will be a dessert auction, bluegrass tunes, and great fellowship! Channel 8 will be a sponsor for this event and will also provide media coverage. Please consider supporting this event in the following ways: Buy a ticket for $5 (what a deal - sample lots of spaghetti, listen to tunes by the Trinity Boys, and bid on delicious desserts!), help Bearden cook our prize wining spaghetti, donate a delicious dessert for the auction, be a sponsor for this event ($250 - individuals and businesses are needed for sponsorships). If you can help in any of the following ways, please call Karen Billingsley at 470-7315 or Charla Sherbakoff 450-5078.  Look for details in the atrium. Let's rally around this fun and important event for IHN!!

Mark your calendars now for our next IHN host weeks: September 10 - 17 and December 3 - 10.

Lace up those tennis shoes and get ready for the Ninth Annual Volunteer Ministry 5K Run/Walk on August 12 at Volunteer Landing next to Calhoun's on the river. The Run/Walk benefits Knoxville's poor and homeless. The race will be held at 8 a.m.  Registration forms are available in the atrium (right next to the donuts!). You can run, walk or crawl!  Let's get a Bearden team together!

                               FROM THE PASTOR

Did You Know, An Explanation, And Therefore!!!

Did you know that the Knoxville District Stats. came in last week showing that Bearden has the 7th highest Worship and Sunday School attendance in our district?  We have the whole district record in the office if any of you would like to explore a bit.

The explanation for this I believe is that God has sent many beautiful people to Bearden.  While you, the members, have been part of a great past in ministry, I believe that God has been preparing Bearden for its future by calling you to be part of this great faith community.  In my objective and unbiased opinion God has gathered the best folks in Knoxville in order to go forward serving for the Kingdom of God.

Therefore, as we look to God’s future for Bearden, it is one of opportunity, possibility, and great challenges in the name of Christ.  God does not send people to a local church just for that church to stay on the sidelines.  People are sent that they can get into the life and community transforming process (Grow In Love For God, Grow In Love For All His Children, and Enter Into Vital Service)!

There are a bunch of folks out there that need to be loved.  I believe that you guys and gals are just the ones to get the job done!

                                          In Christ,

                                          TLS

APPLES FOR POND GAP

We will once again collect school supplies for the students at Pond Gap Elementary School.  The Apple Tree is in the Atrium so please take an apple and help a child begin their school year with all the supplies they need.  The supplies, with the apple, need to be turned in by August 13.  Thank you for your generosity.

                         I HAVE NO TIME!

     I have no time to find fault with others;

          I have too many faults of my own.

     While I, myself, may not know them,

          I’m sure that to others, they’re known.

     I have no time for idle gossip;

          You see, it may all be a lie.

     Soon the story will die out

          If everyone passes it by.

     I have no time to listen

          To those things which stir up strife.

     Far better to tell of good deeds done

          And brighten everyone’s life.
