MISSION HAPPENINGS

On Saturday evening, August 26th the first annual IHN Spaghetti Cook-off will be held at First Farragut UMC.

There will be celebrity judges as well as let the public vote and there will be two prizes given - The Best Spaghetti and The People's Choice. There will be a dessert auction, bluegrass tunes, and great fellowship! Channel 8 will be a sponsor for this event and will also provide media coverage. Please consider supporting

this event in the following ways: Buy a ticket for $5 (what a deal - sample lots of spaghetti, listen to tunes by the Trinity Boys, and bid on delicious desserts!), help Bearden cook our prize wining spaghetti, donate a delicious dessert for the auction, be a sponsor for this event ($250 - individuals and businesses are needed for sponsorships). Lace up those tennis shoes and get ready for the Ninth Annual Volunteer Ministry 5K Run/Walk on August 12 at Volunteer Landing next to Calhoun's on the river. The Run/Walk benefits Knoxville's poor and homeless. The race will be held at 8 a.m. Registration forms are available in Janice's office or in the church atrium (right next to the donuts!). You can run, walk or crawl! Let's get a Bearden team together!

FROM THE PASTOR

Last Sunday we had an adult join the church by profession of faith and receiving baptism. This was the result of much prayer and effort of the part of several members and a seeking heart on the part of our new member. It was and is exciting to have these celebrations.

There are, however, a number of people who seem to believe that adults are virtually unreachable for Christ. Let me suggest that such an attitude is certainly not scriptural. If adults could be reached in New Testament times why not now? I believe God wants Bearden to take seriously touching the lives of adults.

While there is certainly a need for growth by transfer of letter of membership, I believe every local church should be seeking to grow by profession of faith. This includes both youth and adults.

Would that we pray for God to provide adults and youth for us to give a loving witness. Blessings,

APPLES FOR POND GAP

We will once again collect school supplies for the students at Pond Gap Elementary School. The Apple Tree is in the Atrium so please take an apple and help a child begin their school year with all the supplies they need. The supplies, with the apple, need to be turned in by August 13. Thank you for your generosity.

Rummage Sale. It’s time to start cleaning out those closets, attics, garages and basements! Our fall sale will be Saturday, October 14^th. We will begin set up on Wednesday evening, the 11^th at 7:30. You may bring your treasures to the storage building any time. The key is located in the church office – just see Janice.
