MISSION NEWS On Saturday evening, August 26th the first annual
IHN Spaghetti Cook-off will be held at First Farragut UMC. It will be a great opportunity for all of us to get
together and demonstrate our
commitment to our IHN families and
this program. It will also be a great
opportunity for us to join with Sacred Heart, our support congregation, to
compete against the other IHN congregations to see who really does make the
best spaghetti (since we all serve spaghetti to our guests). We will have
celebrity judges as well as let the public vote and there will be two prizes
given - The Best Spaghetti and The People's Choice. There will be a dessert
auction, bluegrass tunes, and great fellowship! Channel 8 will be a sponsor
for this event and will also provide media coverage. Please consider
supporting this event in the following ways: Buy a ticket for $5 (what a deal - sample lots of spaghetti,
listen to tunes by the Trinity Boys, and bid on delicious desserts!), help
Bearden cook our prize wining spaghetti, donate a delicious dessert for the
auction, be a sponsor for this event ($250 - individuals and businesses are
needed for sponsorships). If you can help in any of the following ways,
please call Karen Billingsley at 470-7315 or Charla Sherbakoff
450-5078. Look for details in the atrium. Let's rally around this fun and
important event for IHN!! Mark your calendars now for our next IHN host
weeks: September 10 - 17 and December 3 - 10. Lace up those tennis shoes and get ready for the
Ninth Annual Volunteer Ministry 5K Run/Walk on August 12 at Volunteer
Landing next to Calhoun's on the river. The Run/Walk benefits Knoxville's
poor and homeless. The race will be held at 8 a.m. Registration forms are avail-able in Janice's office or in
the church atrium (right next to the donuts!). You can run, walk or crawl! Let's get a Bearden team together! Team # 3 will prepare and serve at the Volunteer Ministry Center this Saturday at 10 a.m. (Team # 3
– The Steeds, Darlene Bledsoe, Daleta Sawyer, Pat
Orr, the Matzes - if you cannot serve, please arrange for a substitute.) If
you have never served in this ministry and want to learn more about it, call
Charla Sherbakoff 450-5078 or call Hoyt and Dot Steed to serve this Saturday,
584-7113. Only a 2 hour time commitment and a lifetime of blessings. BAPTISM Spencer Martin Perry, son of Shelby and Ashley Perry, was baptized by
Rev. Seay at our altar on Sunday, July 9th. DEDICATION Titobiloluwa
Oluwaseun Obitayo (Tobi), infant son of Oladapo and Funmi Obitayo, was dedicated during
the 11 o’clock worship service on July 16th. |
DEAR FRIENDS, Have you heard? We had Vacation Bible School at Bearden
UMC last week! The numbers were
great, and a summary is provided below for your information. As thrilled as I am with the numbers, I am
much more excited about the spiritual response of our children. For example, on Tuesday
evening I spoke with a grandmother of one of our Pond Gap students attending
VBS. Lindsay was in the 1st
grade group which was shepherded by Jeanie Keith and Sarah and Dick
Kelso. Grandmother shared that
Lindsay was lying in the living room floor when she overheard her
grandparents discussing a lack of work problem. Lindsay told her grandparents that she learned at Bible School
that we could pray to God about everything.
Lindsay then told her grand-parents that she also learned that you
have to repent and turn away from your sins.
Grandmother then related, through tears, that Lindsay led the three of
them in prayer. WOW! I have to admit that with
all the preparation work before we even began VBS on Sunday evening, Miss
Donna was really tired on Tuesday.
However, learning this story from a grandmother certainly gave me a second
wind. There are many other
stories such as this from VBS. God
truly blessed us! --Miss Donna VBS

message from Stan and Fran Love:
Bearden Church will again be restocking the West Knoxville FISH Pantry
in September, at a cost of several thousand dollars. Last year, your canned goods donations
(into the barrels) reduced the cost of groceries that we had to buy. This savings, plus your cash contributions
to FISH through church envelopes during the year, will cover our anticipated
September expense. In view of your
generous support of FISH in the past, we shouldn’t be asking for more now
when the drive for new sanctuary carpet (and recent mission expenses) needs
your support. Therefore, there will not
be a canned-food nor cash solicitation this summer/fall. Again, thanks, and we’ll be asking for
your help next year. |
