    REPORT ON HOLSTON ANNUALCONFERENCE

The theme of the Conference this year was a salute to women in the clergy. This is the fiftieth anniversary of

full clergy rights for women. About 250 women serve as clergy in Holston Conference.

Good news! Rev. Seay has been returned to Bearden

for another year!

Bearden contributed 143 kits of school supplies for Zimbabwe, and the total conference contribution was 6,778 kits of clothing, food, health and school supplies.

We gave $460 for Change for Children as a part of the total of $55,800. Half of this will be used within the conference, and $ 3500 of this was awarded to

Bearden for our work with Pond Gap.

Actions by the Conference included adoption of the Mission Statement, approval of a $ 15.9 million budget, and approval to purchase a building in Alcoa for the Conference offices. Bearden was recognized as a Five Star Church in meeting our Fair Share Apportionment

for 2005 and received the Silver award for excellence in evangelism.

                                FROM THE PASTOR

VBS!

The Kids Need YOU!

Yes, that means you old man, woman, young man, young woman, middle type man, middle type woman, and any/everybody left undescribed.  Give a week, give 1 day, give 2 days!  But by all means, give!

We expect the largest VBS in church history the week of

July 10!  We have a chance to really make a difference by planting spiritual seeds in the lives of these children.  But, for all this to occur there needs to be a bunch of volunteer adult leadership.  Yes – You!!!

Think of this column as not being from me but from God (I know that is a stretch).  The fact is that God is calling all of us.  See you at VBS.

                                     THANK YOU!

Through their service of reliability, 61 volunteers brought God’s love to our three Interfaith Hospitality Network guest families last week.  We give thanks for a spirit-filled week and to God be the glory.

IHN Need:  If you have or know of someone who has a good usable recliner that they may want to donate, please contact the church office.  Harley House, the “day center” for IHN families, could use one.  Thanks!

                                        KIDS CLUB

Thanks to all the Sunday School classes who helped to make Kids’ Club at Pond Gap School such a success during the month of June.  The children had a great time.  It’s heart-warming to see Bearden at work in the community.

                               IT’S IN THE STARS

I never behold them [the heavens filled with stars] that I do not feel I am looking in the face of God.  I can see how it might be possible for a man to look down upon the earth and be an atheist, but I cannot conceive how he could look up into the heavens and say there is no God.            –Abraham Lincoln
