             Contemporary Worship Service

We are so excited to be planning a new worship service for Bearden UMC!  It will be a theme-based praise and worship service with lots of music and we’re calling it “An Evening of Jubilee.”  We would love to have many of our talented members and friends involved in one or all of the services.  A wide variety of skills are needed (we may have even left some off this list); if you can contribute in any way, please do!  Here are our current areas of opportunity:

SewersWe will be having a Sewing Spree at the church soon; please talk to Karen Billingsley if you can help sew!

Music – We are looking for instrumentalists of all kinds to showcase their talents, but we especially need a guitarist and a drummer.

Lighting and Sound – If you have experience with these things, please help!

Hospitality/Greeters – We are looking for folks to set up, maintain, and take down the refreshments, and also to greet people as they arrive.

If you can help in any way, please contact Charla Sherbakoff (450-5078) or charla@sherhomes.com.

Do you have a celebration that you would like to share?  Graduation, Baptism, Birthday, Confirmation, Family reunion, etc?  We are looking for digital photographs to possibly be included in a “An Evening of Jubilee” worship service. For more information or if you are interested, send your photos to Mary Martin mmartin@ktnpba.org.  You can also put your photos in an envelope marked with your name and address. Place it in the Worship mailbox outside of the church office in the lobby. Pictures will be returned.

                        CONGRATULATIONS!

Ben and Dale Rivers announce the arrival of their grandson, Matthew Todd Gaylon, who was born Nov. 14, 2006.  He is the son of Mindy and Todd Gaylon and was welcomed home by his sisters, Caitlin and Emily.

There will not be a newsletter next week as the church secretary will be out on vacation Dec. 11-15.  If you could answer the phone in the church office one morning during this time, please contact Rev. Seay, 588-6562.  The next edition of The Bearings will be mailed Dec. 19th.

                                  FROM THE PASTOR

How About Those Bearden Servants of Christ!!!!!  What a great group of servants of Christ that make up the congregation at Bearden UMC.  We enjoyed the results of the many hours of practice and effort on the part of the choir last Sunday during the Cantata.  This week the Bearden Bells will bless us during the worship services.  After that the youth will share in drama.  These things are great and take many special people to accomplish!

How about the 30+ decorators that hung the greens!  Our sanctuary is a beautiful house of worship.  When the Christmas decorations are up this is doubly true.  Over 40 folks will help the IHN, toughing “unknown” now “known” friends.  We have 40 folks purchasing Beta Home gifts and probably that many giving Crittenton Home gifts.  All of these are for folks outside “our house.”  There are those who have helped with the children and their special preparation (and the meal on the 13th) that will include kids from inside and outside the church.  You should have seen Stan Cox tying bows on all the wreaths.  I offered to help but he just smiled and went back to tying.

Then there are the hosts/hostesses for the class gatherings, youth progressive dinner, and ……!

God has done great things at Bearden!  The great saints that have gone before have laid a powerful foundation.  God has great servants at Bearden to build on that legacy! I believe God is calling Bearden into its greatest days!  To God be all Praise and Glory!  Merry Christmas,

                                             In Christ,

                                             TLS

                            MISSION OPPORTUNITIES

This year our Advent offering will be divided between the Hope for Sudan and Habitat for Humanity missions. Your Advent gift will provide benches for the school children in Yei, Sudan and provide supplies for a Bearden Habitat for Humanity Work Day. We are called to minister not only at home but also to love and care for God’s children in other nations. One way to minister to God’s children and to prepare for the celebration of the birth of Christ is by giving to the Advent Offering.  If writing a check, please designate on the check, "Advent Offering".

BUMC's Volunteer Ministry Center team for November was small in number but mighty in strength. Daleta Sawyer, Graham Cohen, and Darlene Bledsoe prepared and served a meal for 119+ homeless guests at the Center.  Ask them about God's presence that day and the blessings they received. God can do amazing feats with hearts willing to serve! The next Volunteer Ministry Day for Bearden is Dec. 23. If you can head a food team or work that morning, please call Charla Sherbakoff at 450-5078 by December 18.  It only takes two hours to prepare and serve a meal – 10 a.m. until Noon.

Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) - This week there are three families making our church their temporary home this week. Please pray for the families that they will find comfort in our church, will see Christ in everyone they encounter at Bearden, will be aware of God's presence, and find a place to call home.  If you can help with Take Down on Sunday, please be at the church at 7 a.m.  If you can help launder sheets, towels, and blankets, pick up a bag in the church atrium this Sunday.
