2006 HOLSTON ANNUAL CONFERENCE
MISSIONS The
following efforts are being supported by the 2006 Holston Annual Conference
and our congregation. You may wish to
participate in each project or one of your own choosing. Let God lead you in your decision. The
2006 Holston Annual Conference mission offering will
benefit “Embracing Our Extended Family Alaska Mission.” This is an opportunity to support
Holston’s Fran Lynch, a Church and Community Worker in Willow, Alaska. The Conference goal is $100,000. Bearden’s special offering will be
collected May 28 and June 4; please make checks payable
to the church and mark it “Alaska.” The Change for Children program is
based on the belief that the pocket change of Christians can indeed change
the world for children and their families.
Every child, youth and adult who enters the church is invited to
donate his or her pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, or dollars into a
designated collection container. Half
the money stays right here in Holston Conference and the other half is given
to Hope for the Children of
Africa. These containers will be
placed at our entrances on May 28 and June
4. Every year at Annual Conference the
12 districts collect items for distribution to various mission projects. This year school kits will be sent to Liberia and Zimbabwe. Churches in the Knoxville District have a goal
to provide 400 school supply kits for Maria Humbane, a missionary in
Zimbabwe. Each kit should include the
following: 3
folders (2-pockets); 1 12-pack
pencils; 2 12-packs of pens (blue or
black ink); 1 box chalk; 1 chalkboard eraser; 1
pack wide-ruled notebook paper (150 ct.); 150 sheets of white copy paper (8 ½
x 11); & 4 spiral notebooks (70 ct.) Pack
all items in a 2 gallon Zip-lock bag or secure plastic bag. The bags must be filled with the exact
items. For example, the 70 page spiral notebooks must be 70 pages and not 100 pages. All bags must be 100% complete, too. Note: A $5.00
donation for packing and shipping is also needed. Do not put money in bag! SYMPATHY. . . is extended to Joanne
Hill and family on the death of her sister, Georgia Crump
of Nashville, on May 18th. THANK
YOU! Many thanks to Tom Arnhart, Faye Burns, Renee Follum, Kim Lee, Jim McPherson, Dan & Becca
Proctor, Tom Seay, Hoyt Steed, Laughlin Smith and Jeremy Tucker for their good work on our grounds work day
on Sat., May 20.
Flower beds were mulched and shrubs pruned. This makes “God’s house” a more inviting place to worship. |
FROM
OUR YOUTH DIRECTOR There will be a Lock-In
for Jr. High and Sr. High Youth on Thursday Night May 25th. Youth
are required to arrive at the church around 9 p.m. We will be going to St.
Mary’s Health and Fitness Center for a night of staying awake and having fun.

at the church at 5 am for breakfast and fun. Youth can be picked up Friday
Morning May 26th between 7and 8 a.m. Please keep us in your prayers. Congratulations to the
High School class of 2006. Brad Houser, Chance Cox, Kristin Lusby, Jessica
Counts, Ramsey Cohen, Carty McSween, Thomas Sherbakoff, and James Hauge.
Great Job! We are very proud of each of you and love each of you. There is a new Sunday
School class that has started. It is focusing on Young Adults (18-?). It is
meeting in the parlor area behind the sanctuary. The class is new and has
only been meeting a few times. It is a great class to start in if you are
looking to get connected. Sunday School starts at 10 am every Sunday. Looking for fun,
adventure, excitement, purpose, and connection? Look no further than the
youth department. We are in need of adults willing to spend their time
helping to establish relationships with teenagers through meaningful
interactions. (this means having fun with them) If you feel like you want to
recapture that youthful energy come on out. Please see Shea for further ways
to help connect. Shea McClure 588-6562 or shea@beardenumc.org.
Grace and Peace, Shea IN APPRECIATION To our friends at Bearden, Thank you so much for your
visits, cards, thoughts, and prayers to our family when our son and brother,
Doug Anderson, passed away. We
appreciate your caring and support so much.
You have been a blessing for us. Sincerely, Martha Anderson & Elizabeth
