*The Crist Family was started in 1978 by Tami Crist with a desire to reach people with the gospel message.  Over the years The Crist Family has grown and currently consists of Tami Crist Starkel and her husband John, her brother Rich Crist, Jr. and his wife Lisa, their two daughters Breana and Jackie, and long time friends Tom & Gail Joyce.  In 2004 God called The Crist Family into full-time ministry.  They sold their homes and quit their secular jobs to embark on the greatest adventure of their lives.  They moved across the country from Seattle, WA to East Tennessee.  It is a ministry that spans all ages and is effectively portrayed through music, personal testimony, and a little humor.

                            INFANT BAPTISM

Sydney Margaret Pendergast, daughter of Carolyn

and Brent Pendergast, was baptized at our altar at the

11 o’clock service by Rev. Seay on April 30th.

            POND GAP BLOCK PARTY MEETING

Next Sunday, May 7, at 4:30 p.m. in the

sanctuary, there will be a meeting for all

those who have volunteered to work in the

Pond Gap Block Party.  This meeting is

             necessary for making assignments and

having clear direction in what we will be

doing at the May 12th Block Party.

UMW GENERAL MEETING.  May 8 UMW General Meeting – “What IS this Summer Thing?”  I know we have all seen the sign up sheets and heard mention of the summer camps being held here at our church this summer.  But, exactly what is it?  Where did the money come from?  Why are we doing this?  What is my role?  How can I help?  Donna Lewis will be answering all of these questions and more during the Monday, May 8 UMW General Meeting at 7 p.m.  We will first meet in Atrium for hors de hors and desserts.  Please bring an appetizer to share (executive committee bring desserts).  We will have door prizes.  And if transportation is needed, please phone Nancy Cooper at 588-5470.  All church members are invited and encouraged to attend and get the low down on what will be one of the most important events our church has undertaken.

                               FROM THE PASTOR

Greenway Official Opening!

The City of Knoxville (at our invitation) will be holding the official opening of the new greenway this Friday at 2 p.m.  I want to invite and encourage as many of you as can possible be present to attend.   Though the construction was long and frustrating, we can all see the improvement it makes for the community.  I have already had two conversations on Sunday mornings with walkers while we were leaving the worship service.

The greenway teams and the city reps. have been bragging about how supportive we have been and how easy we have been to work with on this project.  (We are providing the refreshments for this event.)  We want to be the “go to” place full of interested and involved people in the city.  There are many methods of outreach for a local church.  I believe that missions is a foundation stone.  I also believe that being a congregation that is involved deeply in the community, area, and larger city/county gives us a positive place before the people.  Finally comes prayer and actual invitation!

I believe that there are many people that God wants us to touch in the name of Jesus Christ.  I also believe there are many people who want to be part of a faith community that is Christ-centered and invests itself in serving all of God’s children.

                                          In Christ,

                                          TLS

We welcome as our newest family, the Adam Family - Jerry, Beth, Caroline, Lauren and Justin.  Jerry and Beth united with our church membership on Sunday, March 5th, and come to us by transfer from Christ UMC in Memphis.  They reside at 1516 Westport Road, 37922, and their telephone number 690-1812.

                      RECOGNITION OF GRADUATES

We are recognizing the achievement of graduation for all of our High School Seniors. On Sunday May 7th, they will be recognized before the congregation during the 9 o’clock service.   We celebrate a great accomplishment with them and offer our support and prayers for the new challenges in their lives.

The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor

the kindly smile nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him with his friendship.  --Ralph Waldo Emerson
