Seay, will leave April 16th for a 10-day mission to Sudan and
other African countries. The trip is
jointly sponsored by the Holston Conference and UMCOR, to explore burgeoning
ministries in the Sudan. They will
listen to church leaders and pastors from Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan and Kenya, to
lay the ground-work for a mission team trip in November. Please pray for travel mercies, health and
safety, and a successful mission. MISSION NEWS UPDATE --Dot & Hoyt Steed, Daleta Sawyer & Mike
Cohen, Tommy & Marilyn Edwards, & Mike
Sherrill were busy this past Saturday preparing and serving lunch at the
Volunteer Ministry Center. Team #4 - Nancy & Jessica Counts, Nina
& Jim McPherson, Fran Love & Kristen Lusby – will serve on April 22. --FISH

hours of your time.) --Sponsor a hole at the golf tournament, get a team
together, and support the Costa Rica
mission trip! Call Shea McClure for information at 588-6562 --Pond Gap
Summer Ministries - What can you do to support this ministry? --Thank you for a wonderful IHN set up this past Sunday!
A record 16 people helped set up & it was done in less than an
hour! Now let's do the same for Take Down - this Sunday at 7:00 AM. FLOWER CROSS. Worshippers at any (or all!) of the Easter morning
services are invited and encouraged to pick flowers from their own garden,
pluck blooms from a neighbor’s yard, or purchase them from their favorite florist
or grocery store. The Worship Team is
providing a large six-foot cross to be included in the sanctuary beauty on
Easter. Select the time of your appropriate
arrival, and before that time, to the choir room vestibule to place your
flowers in the cross. LILIES. We will decorate our facilities with lilies on Easter
Sunday, April 16th. The
cost will be $14.50 for each lily.
(The price increase is due to the fact that our florist had to secure
lilies from a different vendor this year since last year’s vendor lost their
crop of plants.) If
you wish to purchase a lily, please fill out the form in Sunday’s
bulletin or contact the church office, 588-6562. |
FROM
THE PASTOR Grace Amazing!
This week as part of our worship plan for the
season I am going to share about the amazing Grace of God. This will be a great time to become an
“Andrew” and invite to church someone who is unchurched. Perhaps there is someone you know or are
related to that is struggling with purpose, basic life issues, or the
ultimate question of life and death.
Maybe there are questions about the nature of God. This Sunday might be the time to invite
and plan to spend extended time with these precious folk! I promise not to hammerlock, brow beat, thumb
screw, or use any other erstwhile torture methods. On the other hand I hope to share about something that is the
most important and life enriching experience known, The Love of God in Christ
Jesus that we call Grace! We are
going to sing a really hard to sing Charles Wesley hymn, “And Can It Be,”
number 363. You may want to memorize
it by Sunday (just a thought …). We
will also sing some stuff we all know as well. Blessings, In Christ, TLS FISH REPORT FOR MARCH Total Calls Received 29 Number of Food Deliveries

31 The commitment of the 25
churches that operate Knox County’s FISH program is to provide (usually
deliver) emergency food for three days to individuals and families, with the
quantity proportional to the number of adults and children in need. The nutritionally selected
food is always canned or boxed groceries plus fresh (frozen) bread. Although non-food items are not part of
our mandate, many churches also provide some “specials” or “extras” including
soaps (laundry, dish, and hand), toilet tissue and diapers. From Bearden’s affiliation with FISH in
1983 Bob Milford kept these at his home, as did Connie Mills for three years
until 2001. The purchase price of the
“specials” was paid out of the Bearden UMC FISH account when bought; each month
the cost of those expended was split into thirds and reported to three adult
Sunday School classes, who reimbursed the church. With Bearden’s change in
2001 to six rotating FISH coordi-nators, “specials” were not assured. After a couple years of offering our
clients only what non-food items happened to have been contributed to the
pantry (usually not a variety), the West Knox Pantry churches (led by Central
Baptist of Bearden) started stocking non-food items. The laundry soap we deliver was bought for
a dollar, the dish soap for 87 cents, and the toilet tissue for 35
cents. The variety has been
increasing. A dentist used his
connection to acquire a large stock of tooth-paste and toothbrushes, and a
small quantity of baby food in jars has recently appeared. If you know of an economical source of
baby cereal, please tell us. Life is a mystery to be lived, not a problem to
be solved. |
