CAN YOU SERVE.... during the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) week? Our host week begins this Sunday, March 26, and we are still in need of workers.  IHN unites religious congregations to assist homeless families. We are expecting four families - a mother and her 2 daughters (17 and 14 yrs old) and son (6); a mother and 3 daughters (6, 2, 1 yrs. old); a mother and two sons (11 and 8 yrs old) and daughter (9); a mother and a dad and their 17 month-old son. The families will arrive Sunday at 5 p.m. and spend 7 nights in our church. During the day family members will attend school, work, or return to the Day Center where they receive help in searching for jobs or housing. Each evening the families return to the church where they can relax, socialize, do homework, take showers, do laundry, eat meals, watch TV, and sleep.

Our church becomes their home for the week.  The success of the IHN week depends on the prayers, efforts and enthusiasm of you.   Will you put time aside from your regular routine to serve this week in one of the following ways?

Set Up - March 26, 11 a.m. - Help with converting

Sunday School rooms to bedrooms. Go to early service, Sunday School, and then help set up. You will be finished by lunch time!

Take Down - April 2, 7 a.m. -- Help with changing bedrooms to Sunday School rooms. You will be finished

by 9 a.m.  Donuts will be ready by then!

Morning Van Driver - March 29 - Using the IHN van, transport the families & non-school age children to the

Day Center on Harley Dr. (located adjacent to Church of Ascension on Northshore).  Leave church at 7 a.m. and return van. No special license required.

Afternoon Van Driver - March 29, 30, 31 - Pick up the families at the Day Center at 5 p.m. and return to the church. No special license required.

Evening Host - April 1; 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.  Eat and socialize with the guests, assist parents' with children's needs, help guests with dinner clean up; assist a guest with a particular need.

Overnight Host -A male host is needed for March 29th and April 1; 8:30 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.  Spend the night at the church; be available in case of emergency.

Saturday Host - April 1; 7-10:30 a.m.; 10:30 a.m.–2 p.m.;

2 - 5:30 p.m. - Assist families with children or a particular need, help with special activities; play games with children.

Games - March 31, April 1 - Help children with arts & crafts, play games, supervise outdoor play. Anytime you can give will be a great help!

Laundry - Pick up a bag of sheets, blankets, and towels

at the church entrance foyer on April 2 to take home and wash. Return before next host week.

Although most hosts are adults, youth can and are encouraged to participate as well, particularly with arranging activities for young children and helping older children with schoolwork

                           FROM THE PASTOR.

Sunday School is for living!  Sunday School has made a difference is countless lives!  I believe that Sunday School is making and will yet make a difference in dozens, hundreds, and thousands of lives across the United Methodist Church.

In Sunday School there is a body of instruction.  But just as importantly there is a tacit instruction of the class.  One person said, “Faith is caught as much as it is taught!”  George Hunter of Asbury talks in a number of books about the “contagious” nature of the gospel.  Maybe we need to pray that our classes would become contagious.  Wow!

In Sunday School we connect with sinner, seeker, and saint.  You or I might be in anyone of these categories.  In the class settings bridges of faith, trust, acceptance, and love are built.  For new folks this is vital.  For we who are on the inside this is a garden of nurture.  In both cases the harvest is awaiting.

Sunday School Is For Living!

                                      In Christ,

when there are so many tasks at hand, I am reminded of the verse in Galatians 6:9, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest."  Also Christ's words in John 13:14:  "Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set for you an example that you should do as I have done for you." A week of ministry opportunity is at hand!

ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING AND UMCOR.   The One Great Hour of Sharing offering is essential to UMCOR (the United Methodist Committee on Relief).  UMCOR receives no World Service funds or any other apportionments.  Through their gifts to the offering, United Methodists can assure that when catastrophes cause suffering our church will be in the lead to ease the pain.  Gifts to the One Great Hour of Sharing underwrite UMCOR’s operating costs, so that 100% of every dollar you donate to a specific UMCOR project can be spent on that project and not on home office administrative costs.  Offer-ing gifts over and above administrative costs are channeled where they’re most needed.
