UNITED METHODIST WOMEN NEWS The annual Call to Prayer
and Self Denial observance will be held at Church St. UMC on Wesley House is having a
“CANpaign” to raise funds for the center during the month of March. It is based on the quotation by John Wesley
to “Do all you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at
all times you can, to all people you can, ss long
as you ever can.” The Wesley House
CANpaign offers us an opportunity to show our gratefulness for our God’s many
blessings. The suggestion is that
those participating set aside a small can
and make contributions each day for a week to recognize and thank God
for our many blessings. The
opportunities to contribute are as follows: 1st day - For the blessing of hearing, I will give $
.05 for each
CD I own. 2nd day – For
the blessing of touch, I will contribute $ .25 for each coat I own. 3rd day – For
the blessing of taste, I will contribute $ .50 for each meal I eat
today. 4th day – For
the blessing of smell, I will contribute $1 for
each fragrance that I own. 5th day – For
the blessing of sight, I will contribute $ .25 for
each TV program I watch. 6th day – For
the blessing of Love, I will show God’s Love. I will hug 5 people today and contribute $ .50 for each hug. 7th day – For
the blessing of Forgiveness, I will contribute
all that God allows me to give. If you have not chosen an
observance of self denial for Lent, this is an excellent discipline to give
with a grateful heart to a program which serves underprivileged children in
our community. Choose any week you
wish and at the end of March turn your gift in to Janice in the
office. The UMW treasurer will forward
the total to Wesley House. ATTENTION CHILDREN! BIBLE OLYMPICS CONTINUE THIS
WEEK. |
FROM THE PASTOR. Bible Sunday
– Sunday school is for living! This Sunday in
our Sunday school emphasis is “Bring Your Bible Sunday.” We believe that the bible is so important
that it should be read every day, studied often, and used in Sunday school
and worship each week. One liturgical
response says: “The word of God For the People
of God. Thanks be to God. Amen.” That is our
bible. We believe that as we focus on
the Sunday school theme “Sunday School Is For Living” that the bible is “Central”
to living! The Education
Team asks everyone to bring their bible to church this week particularly and
even better would be to bring it every week.
In Sunday school compare translations.
You might share unique stories about being taught to read or have the
bible read to you. Wesley said
that he was a man of “One Book.” He
was one of the best read men of his day, but he believed that the main word
was “The Word.” Bring your bible to
church this week and we will celebrate this marvelous gift of God to us, “The
Bible!” In
Christ, TLS CONGRATULATIONS! Trevor and Mary Martin announce the birth of their son, Wade Faulkner, who was born IHN CHILI SUPPER & WORKERS &
